At one time thought to be a different species, these beautiful white birds are now known to be a natural variation of the Great Blue Heron. Unique to southern Florida and parts of the Caribbean the occurrence of this white phase becomes more abundant as one travels south from the northern boundary of Everglades National Park. Further south in the Keys the white birds out-number the darker variety.
